Perpetual Motion

Invented by Mr. Reidar Finsrud, the whole machine is placed inside a glass mount, to prevent visitors who view the machine in the gallery from touching it. A steel ball (about 2.7 inch diameter, 20 pound) is rolling on an aluminum track, about 25 inches in diameter, placed horizontally. Three pendulums, about 45 inches long with tunable weights at the lower end, controls three horse-shoe magnets that the steel ball has to pass by on the track. Embedded in the track is a (mechanical) controlling/timing mechanism. It looks like a steel wire bent into a triangular track, 5 inches long. The ball rolls over it and pushes the wire down through a slot in the track. This affects one of the pendulums and regulates its swinging motion. The steel ball has not stopped revolving for months.I would like to thank tiroirdelmare for making the footage longer, so you can get an idea of how it works, Thanks tiroirdelmare :)

a good point!

holy shit we have all been hypnotized and soon we will do something that we will have no clue we did.

I think the ball is being pulled by the magnets. That would suggest that some of the potential energy the magnets are holding is being transferred into kinetic energy in the ball, and then transferred into entropy in the air and track. Though this mechanism is amazing in that it transfers energy very efficiently, it is consuming energy it has, and as soon as the magnets loose their charge (which could be in thousands of years mind you) the system will stop.

While this is not perpetual motion, eventually it MUST stop... a very, very low amount of energy is wasted as it goes around making it so it could do this task for a very long amount of time. It is a very interesting machine :)Is there any air within the glass? That would make it go for much, MUCH longer if there wasn't any

that sound is soooo relaxing! i want one to simply enjoy the noise!

Unfortunately, This machine cannot serve as an endless source of energy, since any energy-extracting mechanism would also serve as a dissipative force. If we could build a frictionless flywheel, it would eventually slow down & stop completely if its kinetic energy were tapped for useful work, and we would get no more energy out than the amount that was initially put in to spin up the flywheel. Good Video though. Good Fun!

for pepetual motion to be usefull the enegy output would need to be more that the intake makeing it impossible since it cant be 120% efficent or so on.that ball would be losting enegy to friction since its on earth where theres gravity.even stars use up enegy by turning there petential enegy in hydrogen to make heat which then ignights more hydrogen making a chain reachtion.

Until you get your device to market, this would make a way cool screensaver!

It's not about reducing friction to ZERO, or making it Whisper quite. It is about tapping a enery source that we are not taught about. So you scrape a little power from this not-yet-understood source, and you push the ball along the track.I love it, Keep up the ULTRA Interesting work!
