Episode 2 of a video which focuses on homebuilt and garage gas turbine / jet engines.Karls Rolls Royce Derwent is now mounted to a truck, a custom built starting panel now makes the engine easy to manage, again we see how impressive the Derwent is at idle and then full power. We then move onto one of todays younger jet builders, built from infomation gathered on the internet, this engine displays all the hallmarks of good backyard jet design.A invitation is detailed at the end of the video for people interested in being part of episode 3, a sort of twisted competition for those who like a little jet in their life.Web links. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R...

I used to live under Burbank Airport in LA so it's safe to say I fuckin hate jets overall. On the other hand if I had a way to own and play with one of these senseless noisemakers, heheheh I would sooooooooooooo have to do it hehehe. I think soon I am going to build a big ass cannon just to let everyone know what time it is first though. > :)

Your right, the Derwent is not very powerful, its more hot air and noise than raw power, what is interesting as the jet engine developed each new jet was nearly doubling the thrust output, those early jet aircraft must have been tricky to fly with such sluggish gas turbines, apart from some of the earlt German stuff, problem there was the engines wore out very quickly. These days its all taked for granted.

And yet, by todays standards, the derwent produces a very small amount of power, between 2000 and 3500 lbs thrust for takeoff, depending on the variant. Still a nice engine though. If he stripped down that truck to just the body and frame he could launch it straight up.

i really like it how in the beggining starting the engine was a pain in the ass, and now at 1.12 it starts so beautifully, gorgeous engine
