You are thinking of the 5.56mm version, the 7.62mm version weighs 20kg and yet still has a peak recoil of about 300lbs, plus you have to carry a battery pack/small generator to power the elector motor.Then there is the ammo, 100 rounds of linked 7.62mm used in a single burst weighs 3.5kg/Plus, combat experience has said the M240 is more than lethal enough for infantry and they just want something lighter.But it's perfect for vehicles that can take the weight.
