They use this rifle probably because it can withstand the tremendous pressure the round builds up in the chamber and why build something new when you have a working rifle. .577 is allot bigger than the standard .50 cartridge, it's designed for exeptional game like elephants. It kicks like a mule on steroids hahaha and only the guy in the end knows it before shooting. hope this helps a bit.
